New Orleans Food Musts

New Orleans Food Musts

Spent 75% of my budget on food. So worth it.

Mother’s Restaurant

401 Poydras St, New Orleans, LA 70130

Mother's is a NOLA must! Mom and pop restaurant with a wait you won't regret. Best bread pudding I've ever had and the jambalaya did not disappoint. Know what you want before you get to the register, then take your receipt and pick a table.

Heard Dat Kitchen

2520 Felicity St, New Orleans, LA 70113

Let's get some real N'awlins food! First time eating shrimp and grits and I'd say it was definitely different than expected - consistency of runny mashed potatoes. Loved the spicy kick of the blackened shrimp to give it flavor. This restaurant looks sketchy, but the tastes are quality - don't let it scare ya off! Their peas were surprisingly great and I loved the mac and cheese too.

417 Royal St, New Orleans, LA 70130

"How many Banana Fosters do you serve a day?"
Host: "About 5 million." Being the home of the first banana foster, we weren't surprised 😂

If your budget isn’t feeling brunch or dinner, check out happy hour (what we did). They still serve banana foster but the food isn’t $$$.

Cafe Du Monde

800 Decatur St, New Orleans, LA 70116
Little clouds of powdered sugar goodness. Cash only! One serving is 3 beignets = $3. The sitting line moves surprisingly fast and that’s all they serve: Beignets and coffee. There’s a separate to-go line but I felt like the sitting line moved just as fast.

Ruby Slipper Cafe

1005 Canal St, New Orleans, LA 70112

Brunch in NOLA. This restaurant was inspired by the Wizard of Oz - there's no place like home - after hurricane Katrina.

Shrimp Boogaloo Benedict, Eggs Cochon, Chicken St. Charles, Banana Pecan Pancakes, Iced Coffee.

Verti Marte

1201 Royal St, New Orleans, LA 70116

Came for the muffuletta and finding out that Brad Pitt used to come here made it even more awesome. Super small deli with amazing food that's reasonably priced and has authentic tastes.

District Donuts Sliders Brew

2209 Magazine St, New Orleans, LA 70130

Donut bother me til I'm done eating! 🍩 What better way to start off the morning than with a donut that's so delicious. This place has a cool atmosphere in the Garden District on Magazine Street.

Turtle cheesecake, chocolate, funfetti.

Willa Jean

611 O'Keefe Ave, New Orleans, LA 70113

Another round please! 🍪🥛 These cookies were warm and the vanilla milk was sooooo good. Love how they add a beater of cookie dough. Trendy atmosphere and friendly service. Def a positive mood.

New Orleans Food Tours

Went on a Free Tours by Foot French Quarter food tour and it was amazing! Loved hearing about this history of how food came to be, the different cultural influences, and what makes food here unique. You do have to pay for the food, but feel free to tip the tour guide as much or little as you desire. So glad I went on this and is worth the money and 2 hours and the guide will email you a list of restaurant recommendations post tour!
